HELP NEEDED: Key broke off in door

    Hello all,

I went down for a weekend to visit some family at the shore, and locked the car when I parked. I went to unlock the car and the key broke in half. I do not have an extra key with me, and the car is still locked. Any advice? Can these be easily broken into/hotwired?

From what I understand, the steering wheel lock is a real motherfucker to defeat. Unless you've got an aftermarket wheel, you're screwed there.

        Two options:

        1. Take your title to the local BMW dealer and they'll make you a key. You'll also need to replace the drivers' side lock cylinder unless you figure out a way of getting the key out. Total cost? About $70 and a few days.

        2. Call a locksmith. They will come to your car, extract the key and make a dupe from the two pieces, right then right there. This does come at a cost though... expect to spend about $150-200 for this service.

Definitely call a locksmith. They will get the broken off key out and cut you a new one.
