    Oil all over engine bay

    Why is it that ever e30 I see seems to have like old motor oil all over the engine bay. It's like yellow stains

          Yeah, it's not oil, it's cosmoline. They sprayed it on the engine bays to keep rust away. Dealers were supposed to pressure wash it off once the cars were stateside, but many did not. It dried/baked on and is rather difficult to remove now.

                          Doubtful, my car didn't have that option (or any, even hubcaps) when shipped and was coated with layer upon layer of comsmoline.
