Isn't it in the Bentley manual? Or does he E36 version cover the M42?

you can enlarge that pic to get a higher resolution. I'm guessing it's that thing at the top passenger side of the radiator.

yeah but urs has some cover thing mine doesnt have, could you take it off and see? you might be able to see anyways. it looks like it goes brown/black, green/black, black from top to bottom but im not quite sure

and if you still have ur engine apart like that be sure to adjust ur timing, i wish i would have done it to mine when it was apart http://www.r3vlimited.com/Tech/318is.htm

              thanks

Yes you are correct. That is indeed the sequence of the wires.

I took the sensor off and inside it had a 0 by the wire in the middle which i think would mean ground and a t1 and t2 by the top and bottom wires. Are you sure thats how the wires go? I would think the black would go to the middle ground wire. Could you try touching each of the 3 wires to a place thats grounded? when i do this the gauge doesnt move and i think its suppose to.

                  thanks

Tthe plug it has this sequence of numbers:

                      3 1 2

                      3 - brown/black

                      1 - green/black

                      2 - black

I didn't pop off the cap, but pryed it far enough to see that each wire was indeed going to their respective pins.
