    rear cam cover instalation

Well, I thought I was done... The engine is purring nicely for the first run, everything was cool until the puddle...

The shop that did my head did not put in the rear cam cover. It's like a freeze plug, but holds oil at the rear cam bearing. I neglected to notice this before I put it all together. needless to say I'm kind of angry at myself for not seeing this before instalation, and annoyed that the shop didn't mention that it needed it.

anyways, normal plug instalation is easy, pound in the plug with a driver. smile drink beer.

this, on the car has 1/2 inch of room to get anything in there. I could use sugestions on how to install this without removing the head. My natrual thoughts would be:

    a. 2 prybars at 180 degrees, pressing on a block, pressing on the plug. my prybars are 7ft.long, the force should be ample I imagine.

    b. lower trans, maybe I can get in there, highly doubtful. I think when lowered the head hits the firewall right where the plug is.

    c. (help!)

no ideas are dumb, help me get this done. It's almost a year since it drove, I can not stand much more...

Try and pry it on. Gonna be tricky.
If not, pull the motor, lol. At least you wont need a new headgasket.

ha! this project has been so incredible, but everything that went wrong is almost corrected now, I am feeling a bit cursed though.

          Here's my suggestion.

Get a piece of metal bar with two holes drilled in it at either end.

2 all thread rods, another piece of metal bar with holes.

One bar goes at the front of the head, one at the back with the cap , nuts on the threads and tighten, it should pull the bars together and press the cap in.

          Good luck

I like this... seems like a bit of work, but a lot less than pulling the head, plus I have those materials. I may have to bolt it to the intake/exhaust since the cam gear/cover is on though. if prybars are a no-go, this should work. thanks for the ideas!
