    Brake Master Cylinder... ???

Ok, for the last month or so I have noticed my brakes becoming a little softer. No biggie, just every now and then I would give it a pump. Figured the master cylinder was going out, but it seemed to still be pretty good.

Well, tonight driving to get some new kicks I had to slam on the brakes. And I mean slam!!!

The pedal was to the floor and when I tried to push it in again it gave almost 0 resistance.

So I get back in the car to drive it around in the empty lot to test my brakes. Thinking by now that the car would be normal. Nope, no resistance until the end when the brake kicks in. This sucked, I had to push to the floor still. And when I push it in you hear an air sound, like a pump.

If this does not sound like master cylinder I am just screwed.

And on the same note, anyone done the 750iL MC upgrade? 25mm bore. I have heard it is a little overkill, but then again my car is!

so your pedal goes to the floor with little resistance? Have you lost any fluid? If not your master is gone.

remember the Yugo? with about 50hp? well it would go nearly 100 mph and a gallon of gas will let you travel 2? miles in your E30, But without brakes you might never travel anywhere again without Brakes.

Please never leave a braking issue to tomorrow when you have time to dignois it prior to your situation, bad for me and you.

        Safety.

I won't be drving the car until next week, because I will be gone. Even then I need to do the TB and diff mount. So my car will be out of action for a week or two, or one weekend!

this is a little off topic, but the size of the MC is circled on the cylinder right? i checked out a 1988 E32 750iL at local salvage yard and its MC had the number 30 circled, does this mean some came with 30mm MC's? i passed on it because i thought 30mm would be overkill, plus i didnt want to put a salvaged MC in my car, but if it is infact a 25 then i might reconsider.

30mm. holy shit. that is huge. they are usually 25mm on the 750iL.

How firms is the pedal? I have heard from some people that is dangerously firm. Like in emergencies it may be to hard to stop! If this is the case, I think I will pass.

                    read the other brake post...

BTW, I believe it's from a 735... but any master that has 10mm exit holes would be fine. it's the same master that E30M3 owners upgrade to.

I have SS lines and the 25mm 735 brake master. (direct swap for non-M's b/c our stock brake master already has dual 10mm exits.)

personally, I really like how the pedal feels. but It seems a bit soft now since I haven't changed my brake fluid in 2 yrs... but I'll be doing all my brakes next week, so I'll let you guys know more about it then.

Cool let us know. I am leaning more towards doing it now. I just dont want to end-up with a brake pedal that is impossible to move! But so far two guys have said they liked it, versus the one on roadfly who says it may be dangerous! Hmmm... :?

maybe it's dangerous if you're a weak bitch... but I haven't had any problems with it. Just the other night I had to slam the brakes and I had no broblem making the ABS kick in relatively soon.

the pedal is nowhere near rock solid, but just feels much more linear instead of the soft exponential braking force of the stock brakes.

everyone who's driven my car likes the pedal feel too.

and I'll let you all know how my brakes turn out if I can ever get my by brake pads within the month that I ordered shipped 2nd day air.
