Hi,
I started to notice this noise yesterday when the car is idling. I can also occasionally hear it while driving. The noise sounds almost exactly like when someone pulls and ebrake quick but it lasts for a few seconds at a time.
This is a clip where you can hear the noise.
Does anybody have any ideas what would be causing this?
The car is an automatic with about 98k kms on it. 325i with the stock m20 motor. I drove it about 130kms today with no issues. The car runs really well on the highway but when I'm starting from a stop it feels like it has no power. Sometimes when throttle is around 50-70%, the car also bounces around in rpm. Usually between 2-3000 and sometimes from 3-4000. It's almost like either the transmission can't decide on what gear to be in and it keeps dropping and raising a gear back and forth, or it feels like it can't get enough fuel and revs to 3k then quickly drops to 2k, and over and over. When I floor it though it revs right up and pulls fine. Also, sometimes when I'm stopped and holding onto the brake, the car kind of feels like it wants to lurch forward. Maybe the issue is the transmission? When I changed the timing belt a bit of tranny fluid leaked out (when I disconnected the line). I didn't think enough leaked out to do anything but would that cause any of these issues?
Any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Jason
