Ive done some google searching on this and seen a couple people with seemingly similar issues, but Ive yet to find a concrete answer/fix. I have a 1990 325i that I inherited from my dad recently. The fuel gauge has been broken on it for a while, so I keep track of my mileage and fill it up based on that.
As of about a week ago, every time I go to put fuel in the tank, I only pump about 3 or so gallons before the pump shuts off. I try to pump more but it continually shuts off and I can see the fuel pooling in the filler neck.
From what Ive been able to find (which isn't much) it sounds like a blocked fuel tank vent is causing pressure to build up within the tank which makes the pump shut off. It sounds like the tank vents thru the charcoal canister, so how would I be able to check that?
Anyone have differing opinions and/or specifics on how I would go about fixing this?
