SOLVED: CHECK light stays lit, panel malfunction - 1986 325e

EDIT: I needed a new check panel.

My CHECK light stays solidly lit - not flashing, never turns off when the ignition is on. When I press the brake pedal, the brake light and oil level lights go on. When I release it they turn off. The oil level is normal and all lights work. The button on the panel itself does nothing.

Anyone else experience this? All I've read about is flashing CHECK lights, never a solidly lit one. Could it be a fault in the wiring harness?
