86 325e idle fluctuates/dies, running rich, throttle hesitation

Searched everywhere and the Internet defeated me. So I just got it started, PO tried to fix some things but in the end was a really half-assed job. Well, now the car starts up but dies either immediately or sputters for a bit then dies. If I step on the gas the car will rev up, with hesitation, and you can smell how rich the car is running (also checked for fuel leaks and there weren't any) and black smoke is coming out of the exhaust. I noticed one of the temp gauges was busted but that wouldn't cause it to run rich. I swapped out the ICV and FPR with a friend and they are working properly.

    Things I replaced:
    Fuel injector o-rings
    TB gasket
    intake manifold gasket
    new hoses
    spark plugs/wires

    PO replaced:
    Fuel filter
    Main relays
    Fuel pump
    ICV
    Air mass flow meter

    Any help is appreciated

Coolant temp sensor? They tend to build up resistance as they age, causing the ecu to think the car is always cold and dump fuel into the engine. Check the resistance when cold and hot. When cold, it should read 2000+ ohms; when hot, 250-400 ohms. If it's out of spec, replace it. Also, make sure the cold start injector isn't leaking. Check the o2 sensor.

I'm just going to replace it seeing as how the tabs on the top snapped off because of corrosion.

changed the coolant temp sensor. nothing changed. changed the oil cap o rings on the oil dip stick, still idles like shit, runs rich, and hesitates. I did a smoke test and noticed that there is a vacuum leak from the valve cover breather hose but i thought that would cause the car to run lean and not rich?
