Purchased and installed a new lock barrel for the ignition on my 89 325i. Rather simple after reading a quick "how to." Popped the old one out no problem, popped the new one in no problem, cycled the key all the way to start no problem then turned off and removed key. Now the key won't go into the cylinder even the slightest bit. There appears so be a small block sticking down from the 12 o'clock position that prevents any insertion of the key. I can take a pick and push this block up but unless it is held up, it falls back down.
Apologies if this has been covered before but I searched through a ton of threads and found broken keys, locks that wouldn't turn and even worn cylinders that came out attached to the key but no one with this particular problem. I used genuine BMW parts and compared the new with the old before installing.
Hopefully there is someone smarter than me who can shed some light on this issue. Checked with a couple local(ish) forum members and they were stumped also.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
