Gas tank leak - will permatex gas tank repair be worth a shot?

It appears right below the filler neck I have some rust. It is smooth, but a hairline crack is there. The rusult is that gas leaks out of it. I am not sure I have the time and energy to replace the tank. It seems pretty involved. I also need to do the CSB due to some mild vibration. I am going to try to nurse these issues a little longer. Anybody know if this is a common place for the tank to crack and will the permatex putty be worth a shot?

There are a couple of pins holes below the the filler neck. I am going to try marine tex epoxy. It came recommended on a different forum and the company tech advisor feels confident that it will seal the leak. We shall see.

Nope, i tried permatex on my oil pan gasket. It doesn't make the correct seal, trust me. I'd just replace the tank considering its rusty.

Which type of Permatex did you use? We use it on all the oil pan gaskets on the race cars and have no issues. OP, if those pinholes are all the rust on the tank (which would be surprising but not impossible), the sealant will be fine as a short-term fix.

What would be a less surprising issue? I have a leak down there as well, in the same area. I haven't gotten a good look at it yet

It would be less surprising if there was rust in/on other locations around the tank.

I'd be surprised if that was the only place the tank was rusted. Cleaning off all the rust and using quality epoxy may buy you a little time, but the only long term fix will be a new tank.

As to the CSB, if it is failing the cause will be binding u-joints in the drive shaft and the only long term fix is a reman driveshaft (which will come with a new CSB installed).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
