E30 Slave Cylinder Replacement, Now Car Battery Light Stays On

    Guys-

Need some help here. I recently found a puddle of brake fluid under the car, which led me to the replacement of the slave cylinder as this is where the leak was coming from. After bleeding the slave cylinder...as best as I could, and obtaining a firm clutch pedal I drove the car around for a few minutes to test the transmission and it felt fine. I parked the car noticing that the battery light was on in the dash. The car now sits dead and jumping the car is only a temporary fix. Why does changing the slave cylinder cause the battery light to come on and any recommendations for a fix?

    Thanks in advance.

You must have knocked one of the grounds loose.

I don't think that disturbing the engine to chassis ground can cause this. So I have to say that this looks like a coincidental failure. If the battery light stays on once the engine is running, the voltage regulator (or possibly the alternator) has failed. However if the light stays on with the key out there is a fault in the Hot in Start and Run circuit.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Likely a coincidence. Do the regular checks. Check the battery for a dead cell, the alt for charging, and the regulator as well.

Thanks for the replies. I'm far from coherent on the electrical side of the things but I think I may have found the problem (unless this is another coincidence); a bad connection at the break light appears to be the cause for the battery drain. After getting the break light to work and letting the car charge, the battery light no longer is illuminated with the key out...but it is illuminated with the car running. This is probably a separate issue...I'm leaning toward a functional but week alternator or voltage reg.
