    Fuel smell in cabin...

    Hello r3v,

Ever since I upgraded my injectors, I've been smelling a faint smell of fuel occasionally when I'm inside my car -- typically after the car has started up in the morning, and after the car has been shut off for a few minutes.

There are no visible leaks at the fuel rail / injectors, and while the car is running can FAINTLY smell fuel coming from 1 injector?

Where else should I be checking for faults/damage?

    My thoughts are

    1. Fuel lines in the engine bay (all seem fine to me)
    2. Fuel tank -- how do I check if this is leaking? No visible spots underneath when parked in a cool area
    3. Underneath the rear bench? I haven't checked here yet... but could this be a source?

    Let me know guys!

    Best,
    JP

I would lift up the seat and remove the two panels to make sure there isn't a leak...that is really the only place where the fuel smell would creep in from the tank itself. A leak would be pretty obvious.

Secondly, make sure the injectors are fully seated into the intake manifold. You may want to pull the rail and replace all the orings on the injectors (can get them from NAPA)

Lastly, start the car and make sure the line to the FPR isn't squirting out fuel and there isn't fuel leaking anywhere else. Grab connections where the fuel line connect to the injector rail too...there could be a leak you don't see, but make sure the connections are tight

Look for moisture at all the ends of all fuel lines. This tiny amount of fuel seepage will make the interior of your car small. If you are as lucky as I was last week, one half turn on a hose clamp will solve the problem.

I have the same problem. smoke test the fuel system and look for the smoke. found out mine was at my gas tank it starting to rust where the top and bottom where once welded.

I upgraded to m50 injectors and I got a more powerful fuel smell too. Although, I replaced all the fuel hoses and o-rings. I'll be interested to see what you find.

            All of the above, plus:
I replaced my injectors and about 3 months later my garage started smelling of gas.
I inspected the injectors and fuel lines while the car was cold, while running, hot warm, upside down, backwards, forwards, etc.
One night I walked into the garage about 2 hours after driving the car and caught it. One injector was leaking and leaving a little pool on the intake. It was coming from the joint between the metal and plastic part of one injector. It didn't leak under pressure, was dry in the morning, but at just the right time the puddle was visible. Cyl #3 of course.

If you didn't have this problem before replacing your injectors then something went wrong in the process. Double check everything.

I had a leaking injector but i was lucky enough to just have to tighten down the fuel hose and stopped. Just make sure your fuel lines are snug
