    Weird noise/smell from the engine...

I've been noticing this smell for ~3 months now. It doesn't smell like burning oil or coolant because my car leaked both of those when I first got it and I know what it smells like. Plus, the smell isn't coming from the exhaust manifold. I could only smell it if I stick my head into my front grill and smell it. Seems to be coming from the radiator/alternator area, basically the front of the engine.

Now, onto the noise. It is a whirring/whining noise coming from the front of the engine. I believe it's my power steering but I need to make sure. Whenever I turn my steering wheel all the way, I hear sort of a groaning sound and every once in a while, it's a screeching/screaming sound. I know my power steering is leaking, but could it be the cause of the noise? The belt connected to the alternator is brand new and has been installed correctly. The water pump is also new so it's not that. I know I'm leaking power steering fluid. Could this be the cause of both the smell and the noise?

Easiest way would be to take the belt off the power steering pump and see if the sound goes away and it might be connected to the smell you smell...

It's likely that your power steering fluid is being burnt off giving you the weird smell. Check your power steering system.
