    Need help in re-assembling doorlock cylinder

    Hi everyone;

    I removed my driver's door cylinder to replace the tumbler segments. I read and printed the write-ups and everything went well EXCEPT that I can't get the cylinder U-shape bracket to slide on so it stays fixed to the door. When I looked at the pictures referenced in the write-ups it seems that it is for a coupe door - with more access to the inner door than with my sedan.

    Here is a picture of my door and the clamp I need to pinch the cylinder to the door with. As you can see, I only have those 3 little opening holes to play around with. Oh, and my arm doesn't fit where the window regulator is. Any ideas??? Please!!

        This is the exact reason I havent rebuilt mine yet. When I looked in there I knew it would be a PITA to get on.
        Do a follow up, would like to know what is the way you did it.

            Well here is an update; the solution was to call a friend smaller and thinner than me who was able to put his arm where the regulator is and slide the bracket back in place. My contribution was to simply hold the cylinder in its place as well as the flashlight.

            I do have to struggle a little to make the 1/8 clockwise turn to lock/unlock the car. At one time I turned the key 1/4 turn clockwise and she resisted heavily to return to the 12:00 position - I was afraid I would end up breaking the key. I have liberally lubricated the inner cylinder where the key slides through but no noticeable improvement. Perhaps with time the wear will kick in and make things easier for me. :-)

              i built a fresh lock for mine with the bmw kit. mine is a bit sticky too, i think it's just a break in thing. my clip also slid right back on. but my arms are skinny so apparently i got in there easier than most can

                y'all should check if you have the little metal cylinder properly in place. mine was super hard until I noticed that was binding up in the assembly.

                  I see you were able to get it put back together but will throw my experience with this out there.

                  I struggled with this job until I had someone hold the cylinder flush with the outside of the door. From the inside of the door, I then held that bracket in position with needle nose pliers and put a screw driver through one of the other holes to push the bracket into place around the cylinder. It took under a minute and an attempt or two once I smartened up and had someone holding the cylinder.

                    Another option - if you don't have a helping hand - you could put duct tape over the cylinder to hold it in place (from the outer door position).

                      My door lock sticks alot also. The door lock will not go to the 1/8 turn single lock and always goes to the 1/4 turn double lock. I did not care because of the extra security, until one day the lock was stuck and would not return to the unlock position. I was double locked out of my car for 2 weeks before I could get the dam door cylinder to unlock. A week later after gaining access to my car back the ignition switch tumbler would not go to start...Great!

                      I have replaced the ignition and put the piece of tape that the PO had on the door lock back on...lol. I was about to buy a door lock repair kit but having second thoughts as I own a sedan also. Keyless entry is starting to sound better.
