    Red E30 - Yellow headlights..

I have a red (brillantrot) 91 325i with several sets of headlights - I have a set of the originals (nonellipsoid), ellipsoid that are on it now and a set that found at a junk yard - fairly cheap ($100 for the set).. My (sons) IX has a set of Cibie's that are awesome - but that is for another thread..

For my extra set of ellipsoids, my intention is to paint them yellow - to see how they look on a red E30 - I have seen only a couple of pics - so I am not convinced of the look..

I am also wanting to experiment with the yellow light - my theory is that it will reduce glare and help me see a bit better in inclimate weather - normal for clear weather.. I've read through a few opinions and research on this and the best site so far on lighting color is here:

I plan on following Daniel's recommendation on painting the headlights using Dupli-color MC202 Yellow Metalcast paint - For the first go around - I am only going to paint the outside of the lenses - as if I do not like the look or the visual effects - I can remove the paint using acetone or paint remover. If I do like the look - I may remove the lenses and paint the inside, reseal and install - but not until this summer..

Any thoughts or opinions? I am painting all four lights and legally I do believe I am on solid ground (Iowa doesn't disallow it).. Any comments on the paint proceedure welcome? Has anyone else done this?

    Paint?

    Why not LaminX?

Red and yellow are McDonald's colors.

The Laminex - is a bit to "highlighter" yellow for my taste..

I want a deeper euro look like this:

it seems as if you could coat inner reflector by swabbing paint on them without removing glass.

I will attempt that this January as one of my Frenchie's has faded over the years.

I had LaminX on mine and I got pulled over a few times (even though yellow isn't illegal in my state) and finally pulled it off. It definitely reduced light output a bit. I had them on euro headlights with the brightest H1 Sylvania bulbs I could find.

The car is Zinno. I'll post of photo of it with them in a bit.

The legality could be an issue - although I think I am on stable ground.. I posted on this in another forum here (interesting read):

Bimmerforums is the preferred online BMW Forum and community for BMW owners. At Bimmerforums, you will find technical how-to information maintenance specifics audio advice wheel and tire combinations and model specific details not found anywhere else. Our professionals are here to help make sure you find the answers you need to your questions and our community is here to help other brainstorm ideas for the future.

Cops could use it as a reason to pull you over - As with any little defect anymore.. I can switch back in about 15 minutes to my other set if it becomes an issue..

laminx is definitely more of a highlighter yellow and doesnt match the e30 french look.

i went with this because it is a deeper/darker yellow:

Painting the reflector could potentially reduce the light output. Replacing the lens for a yellow one would be the best option.

Highs = lens is yellow, reflector is silver
Fogs = reflector is yellow, lens is clear or in this picture cracked.
