URGENT HELP! M42 engine question (whos got a block with no head on it)

I need to see pictures of the non-return valve in the block - according to Real OEM its on the Pass side center between 2 and 3

I never removed it from the block - but now that the motor is back together I am questioning whether or not it could have fallen out while getting hot tanked...

However in this picture I cant see how it could be there as its the threaded hole for the head bolt only... Is it installed on this picture? anyone know I dont ever remember seeing anything like this

Help I need to know ASAP so I can order parts if need be it

I dont need the block but can you see what the deal is with the check valve? where it is - how far down into the block it is - is it a tight fit - is it a loose fit

i never removed them as i didnt know of them so im affraid now that during hot-tanking they could have fallen out or are shit now

any ideas? my block looked just like the above pic when the head got bolted on so i have no friggen clue - but then i got a bently the other day and saw this tid bit about this anti drain back valve (check valve basically)

Damn, sorry i cant help. I did the headgasket on mine several years ago and dont ever recall a part sitting in that hole. Check and see how the headgasket covers it, if it even does. I can understand the one way valve, but under running conditions i dont think it would effect the lube system. Keep in mind, the only pump is the oil pump, nothing else picks up oil on a motor. Only thing i could see it as would be to have some oil up top for the valves/lifters on start up, but even that isnt being forced in.

If i were you, and im glad im not, id trash the thing. Let me know what bin, when dropped off, and detailed directions.

Im not even sure what hole they're referring too - in the bentley its one of those illustrations

Every other lower end pic ive looked at tonite on the interweb looks like the pic i posted above - and thats what my motor looked like when i popped on the head

Im thinking the bastard is burried way deep in that passage and is a fairly tight fit - (once again what im telling myself)

I dont know in terms of oil pressure or anything if it will effect it - I know on some motors there are various needles in an essence that restrict flow to obtain certain amounts of pressure BMW dubs this guy a 'non-return valve' so im going to assume its a check valve

I might pull the head off the e36 parts car tomorrow and see what i find -

the worst part is i know the bastard is gonna be in there - but its just one of those things thats bugging the crap out of me

There was nothing there when I did my head. Adam told me that valve is in the block, so I don't know if you could still have a problem. I think all it does it help oil flow back into the pan when the car is off, but I could be wrong.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.
