    1986 325 Not Starting

    Hi all,

I recently decided to fix up a 1986 325. This 325 was my uncle's car who unfortunately passed away many years ago. The car has been sitting in the same spot for the past 10 years and currently will not start. This would be my first car and real-world learning experience about automobiles. I am wondering if anyone has any advice and would be willing to help me solve my problems!

The gas is not getting from the fuel tank to the engine, so my guess is possibly the inline fuel pump or filter? The new fuel pump that I have installed is pumping, but I do not know where to.

    So far I have:
    Replaced the underseat fuel pump
Siphoned old gas and replaced it with new

    Here some pictures:

Here is the new pump I bought:

Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks for reading! ;-) I hope this post is in the right section of the forum.

The car looks to be in great shape. Get yourself a copy of the Bentley Manual and READ it. Since you are in Cali you should be able to find someone knowledgeable about E30 to walk you through the car. There are many things you will have to do to get it up and running...fuel filter, timing belt/water pump, spark plugs, oil change, coolant flush, brakes, fuses, cap and rotor, coil, O2 sensor, CPS, and of course the infamous BMW electrical gremlins. I am sure there are things that I have not mentioned and someone else can chime in. Good luck.

      Thanks for the reply!
I just downloaded the Bentley Manual and will read it soon.

Here is a video of what's happening:

Also by chance do you know what the part I was asking about is?

I would just replace the fuel filter. You can also at that time see if the other fuel pump is working too. You should hear it running. You can jump some pins on the ECU connector to get power to the pumps. And you can see if the second pump is working. It's pretty expensive so I would verify if it works before just replacing it.

Do you have a Bentley? It's worth purchasing a paper back. That will tell you the pins to jump or I can look them up for you.

Where does the end that goes over the intake manifold connect?

Welcome and good luck with your e30. Looks great.
