Help! Did I burn the head gasket?????

My radiator hose busted and now the car is pushing water up out of the resevoir as well as overheating/passing the mid-mark. As soon as I noticed the car was leaking water I pulled over so I don't see how I could have burned the head gasket that quick. Can anyone give me any ideas? Is there anyway to confirm if it's the head gasket?

Did you're car overheat for an extended period of time after the hose busted?

Overheating can be caused by a bad thermostat, water pump or fan clutch. I would check those first then go from there.

Before doing anything I would check for water in the oil or oil in your water and/or do a compression check.

no, not at all, I pulled over immediately and switched the hose. While filling the resevoir again the water would come back out while the car heated past the mid point.... This is so frustrating, I just bought the thing a few days ago. (my other car is tripping too, see my next post "tranny not shifting out of 1st")

If it overheats while filling it like that that is normal. When you let a lot (or all) of the coolant out of your system then refill it there is gonna be a ton of air in the lines.

Turn the heat on full blast in the car, let her run and keep it topped off. Sometimes it can take a bit, but you should be ok after a while.

That's exactly what my cousin was saying about the air in the system, I'll let him know about the leaving the car running with the heat on full blast, thanks!

I talked to him and he said he has tried all that... He states that even with the car completely cooled down, when he turns it on, the system immediately starts pushing water up out the resevoir. I can't believe this bad fortune, I just bought this damn car Thursday. Now, I'm going to have to spend a fkload of money on all this sh**.

Can anyone tell me more or less what's decent labor charge for changing the head gasket on this car?

Headgasket without a valve job pays 6.6hrs. My shop charges $80/hr so thats about $330 for just changing the headgasket (only labor). A head gasket costs about $70. It will cost at least $500 for a new headgasket.

I still don't think it is a head gasket, it you just turn on the car and water starts pouring out, there is something weird going on there......
