Gasoline has pretty high vapor pressure. VP is dependent on the temperature. The volume (vapor) inside your gas tank will expand/contract with the rise and fall of outside temp. The vapor needs to have some place to go and that is what the expansion tank is for. I would leave it alone. Where would you re-route it to?
I got rid of the charcoal cannister, evap valve, and engine compartment hoses but left the expansion tank and vent hose that I coiled a couple times and added a cheap mini gauze filter on the end. This is hidden under the plastic shield.
I had no need for an evap system on my engine.
