    thermostat

I had my thermostat go out on thursday and was 45 miles from home so I stopped at O'Reilly's and got a thermostat and put it in the parking lot (ghetto-style) now the car runs a mark high on the gauge and the thermostat says 82 degree celsius,, my question, I know that this thermostat is a piece, but is it b/c it is 82 degree or just b/c it is from O'reilly's, and what thermostat should I be putting on my 88 325ix.

According to bavauto, "BMW equipped most cars manufactured for the US market with a 80 degree C thermostat. Good for most climates. The 75 and 71 degree thermostats open at lower temperatures for better cooling but can reduce heater output when outside temperature is colder."

I doubt the thermostat is bad, its just designed to run the car a touch hotter than the 80 degree one.
I run a 71 degree stat in my car, cause its hot as hell in Houston in the summer.

so 82 v 80 really makes it run that much hotter, should I be running the 80 or the 75? I going to get one from Bav Auto b/c I hate running Hot kills me.

Be carefull when fixing your thermostat, my dad had the thermostat on his civic die and he did a ghetto fix and ran it for a week till his engine overheated and blew, never a fun thing.
