Replacing Front Convertible Seal - Advice Please

I plan to replace the front convertible seal (the $180 one that wraps around the front and side windows) on my E30 sometime this spring [see: part no 54318100908]. I have reviewed this thread that discusses (near the end) replacing the seal and using sealant and it raises a few "how to" questions for me, see: http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/p...,p,217,00.html.

    1. Does the seal simply pop in and out of the channel or does any trim need to be removed from the frame?

    2. The thread mentions putting a bead of sealant on the frame before inserting the new seal? Did you do that? I will also make sure to get the corners, as mentioned in the DIY thread.

    3. Which sealant did you use? Permatex 16B? A different Permatex? 3M Product 08008? Something else?

    4. Any other tips to make sure the process is successful?

    Thanks, Marc

you can also adjust the top if your seal isnt tight enough. I think its pretty difficult to put in the channel with the sealent or what ever plan on useing. verts always seem to have issue's when its raining cats & dogs outside and the car is just sitting there. I don't have any issues driving in a hard rain. Dripping in the corners (still trying to figure out what I can do but I think im going to buy a new seal soon.

-I would seal the corner seals with the same sealent while your there.
    -adjust the top if needed
-check the latche where you keep top down make sure there not worn out (metal wise)
-rods arnt broken and what not. (I had one and caused me issues)

I've swapped top's once, so a bit familiar with mounting points, will try to lower frame height by removing some shims.
