Any reasonble size 3 jaw puller will work. You might not actually need one though.

After you remove the nut just give the backside of the hub some good wacks with a hammer. The hub usually comes of that way. It may leave the inner race on the stub so you can either use a puller or chisel it off.

      Bearing?

Is there a bearing pressed into the front hub? Is it a proprietery BMW part that is only available as an assembly or a bearing with a separate part number?

Yes, the bearing and hub are one unit. The outer race is part of the hub.

ok so a 6" SK puller 3 jaw puller should do the trick to get that inner race off. sounds like i'm golden.

also the Bentley talks about installing a new inner dustshield (rubber i think) and outer dust cap (metal over nut) but they are not aftermarket parts, dealer only, and special order only. should i just re-use what i have??

No. They can be ordered from most part suppliers but they are cheap anyways.

A new dustsheild is a good idea and you may have to destroy the old one to get the inner race off. The lock nut needs to be replaced and you'll have to destroy the outer cap to get to the nut anyway.
