    SOLVED: No Cabin Heat/Engine Overheating

    I recently replaced most of the cooling/vacuum hoses on my 91 318i (M42). After bleeding the cooling system a few times my car is still overheating after leaving it on for a while and I don't get any heat in the cabin with the heater on.

    I've just replaced the thermostat today and that still hasn't fixed the problem. I'm pretty stuck on what to do next. Any guesses?

    when u did ur bleed was the heater on the hot and high fan speed? also was the drivers side front higher than the rest of the car?

      I did have my heater on high and my car was jacked up from the front evenly.

      Was the heater supposed to be on high as I drain the coolant or as I fill it? And was the drivers side supposed to be higher?

        some say to keep the bleeder higher than the reservoir tank.
        are your hoses hooked up correctly. i once connected the rad and t-stat hoses backwards.

          I might have figured out my mistake..



          In the diagram above, does hose 11 connect to the nipple on the left side of the heater plate or in the nipple underneath it? I have it connected to the bottom nipple currently.

            Actually ignore my post above.

            I'm pretty sure I had my ICV connected backwards. The arrow is supposed to be pointing against the manifold and not towards the hose mess correct? And would that cause my coolant to not flow properly? I would test the car out but I'm waiting on a new thermostat housing gasket as I have a small leak there. Hopefully that solves my problems.

              I just ended up having to bleed my coolant a lot. Took a while but problem solved.
