How to Install new Ignition Tumbler?

I have bought a new ignition tumbler for my 1989 bmw. I have also removed the old one. I am having trouble putting in the new one.

It seems like i cant get the tumbler aligned with the housing correctly so the release tab is also pushed down. If i turn the key and make the tab push in then the tumbler itself does not align with the housing.

The release tab shouldn't need to be pushed down. It's going into a tapered slot, so it will compress all by itself. Just push it in.

I had to turn the key and push a nail in the slot of my new one a couple times to get everything moving, and I dropped it on once that way to make sure everything lined up. Then I took it out, removed the nail, and it dropped right in. Make sure it clicks in all the way because my new one came out once after starting the car.
