Why do all cars run a little rich on cold start up?
To raise the idle a bit and speed warm up.

Rich is cold and lean is hot. Leaning out and engine increases power to certain degree, and can cause a piston to burn out. Excessive fuel is cold and will fowl plugs and stumble. The reason for more fuel is to prevent stalling on intial start up as not all engines maintain a good seal with piston rings and valves.

I would say it's too much fuel or leaky also. Pull your plugs and look at them. Use the color chart.
