Bang on the top of the stud since you are replacing it, or bang on the corner of the actual steering arm with a large hammer, and it will pop out.
Keep in mind, you can't be a wuss about it, takes a few HARD hits.
For the outer ball joint, if you're replacing it then whack away on the stud as DaN said. If not, I usually can squeeze a 4" 2 prong gear puller on it.
If you're doing the inner ball joint as well, I use a pipe wrench on that bad boy. Don't forget locking plates.
alright i rented a puller for free from autozone and got the outer out easy. the inner is giving me a bit of trouble. i tried a large wrench but it didnt seem to work... i'll keep trying. thanks for the help!
Get the right size tool of your choice. I also used a monkey wrench when I did mine. It looks like yours is too big or you're not getting "creative"...
