    fuel leak

I put a new fuel filter on my car and now i am having troubles. It started leaking around the area of the filter so i thought it was the "out" hose on the filter so i took it off and I thought it looked messed up so i cut it for a quick fix. It was still leaking but it seemed like it was one the other side this time so i do the same thing. It stopped leaking but it is leaking again. Is there anything else up there that would leak? I am going to get new hose at pepboys tomorrow but is there anything else up there that would be leaking?

This happened when I replaced the filter in mine as well - apparently disrupting the connection to the old filter was enough to ensure that the old fuel line would not reseal, primarily due (I believe) to age.

I ended up replacing all of my rubber fuel lines. Is your filter behind the driver's door like on my 318is, or is it elsewhere? On mine, the fuel supply line from the tank to the filter required that I drop the tank to replace it. There is an access port under the back seat on the driver's side that *may* allow you to reach the fitting where it transitions from the hard line to rubber, but it didn't for me.

PITA - drop exhaust, drop driveshaft, drop tank, replace $0.50 worth of hose, put it all back together. Took the better part of an afternoon.

I hope its not like that, i thought there was a hard line and then only a few inches of soft to the filter.

on my 89 325i I had a leak in the same spot. I replaced the small hose pieces and it fixed it. I didn't have to drop the tank, there was hard line coming from it.

Unfortunately, the hard line on mine ended on *top* of the tank. Near the edge, but not close enough for me to get to the fitting.

Could you not have pulled the rear bottom seat out to be able to connect it and feed the line down?

I tried, but the hard line ended far enough to the side that I couldn't get my fingers in enough to do it. It was a PITFA, let me tell you. I tried from both top and bottom, couldn't get it to work from either direction.

S'ok, it was fun to see how everything goes together... :|

i changed the fuel filter on mine, and shortly after it leaked

after changing the fuel tank (got one free from a pal), a top metal line was rusted through and probably moving it about in the filter install broke it.

only fill up halfway and see if you leak.
