Steering wheel creaking- anybody ever replace the bearing in the steering column

My steering wheel creak is getting worse. I have a little play when I diagonally push on the steering wheel. I think it could be the bearing in the steering column. I have an 87 325is non-airbag. Anybody ever have this problem or replace this bearing?

I used white lithium grease in a can with a straw like the WD 40 cans and it's been good for 6 years.

Almost always a lubrication issue causes the noise.
