    2.7i, question from a friend.

A friend of mine wanted me to post this, since he wasnt sure if anyone would take someone with 1 post seriously

" My 1991 325i has recently turned 200k miles and I'm thinking I will have to do something about the engine soon. I have replaced the manual transmission, steering rack and a lot of suspension parts already, so I'm assuming most of the car still has a lot of life left in it. I have been looking into building a 2.7i. So far I have made a list of parts I should replace on the engine and it came up to 1000 dollars. This list included Engine Mounts, Hoses, Lower Gasket Set, Upper Gasket Set, Cam Seal, Timing Belt Tensioner Kit, Water Pump, Distributor Cap, Distributor Rotor, Spark plug Wires, Injector O rings, Alternator Belt, Power Steering Belt, Head Bolts, rod bearings, main bearings, front main seal, rear main seal, and piston rings. So this cost plus the cost of an eta crank (?) and having my pistons machined (?) is well over 1000 dollars. Plus I should probably have my head worked on since it has so many miles. There is also the option of buying a super eta engine in my area for 3 to 4 hundred dollars, but it also has 200000 miles. What do you all think about these options? Is this kind of investment worth it for a mild m20 stroker?"

    watcha think guys?

How much do you have to spend and what hp #s are you expecting. A 2.7i can be done many ways. Do it right once and for all using the supereta bottom end and the i head with high comp. pistons and a 272 cam with an SMT-6 and fuel stuff and you're juicy. Search for exact information and you can evaluate your options better.

I think labor is the variable that scares most people away. If you do it yourself over time, patience and planning will plant a big  on your face. Keep the 3.73 diff in there to start and go with a 3.46lsd later on.
