    Spark plugs

Ok, quick question. I know its been said to use the Normal Bosch spark plugs, and not the platinum ones, but i cannot exactly remeber why. Can anyone answer this for me? I didnt throw any into my car, i was just curious as to why the platinum ones are so bad?

The platinum ones are just bad, m20's run like shit with them.

Part of the issue may be the design of the combustion chamber, being that the spark plug end is on the exhuast side, rather then in the center of the chamber like most modern engines.

Either way, Bosch Super W8LCR's are your best bet :)

      Thanks, is it W8LCR or W9LCR though? I cannot find a W8LCR

        W8LCR for the i , www.eap4parts.com has them for $1.75 each.

Will those work well in the eta engine?
Eap4parts lists the WR9LS for the 325e, this isn't a platnium plug is it?
What is recommend for the eta?

I've been using bosch platnum +4's for 1000 miles, and have noticed no difference, for good or bad.

I'm running +4's in my 87 325 right now. No problems with em.

I'll probably change them out sometime, but it's all good for now.

The "S" at the end of WR9LS stands for Silver, which are the stock ones. Those are what you want.

Just switched out my platinum plugs for the stock "supers" this morning. The car idles much more smoothly and no longer stumbles when I quickly stab the gas. Highly recommended.

Alright cool, why do all the major parts stores only carry the Bosch Platniums?
I just called a local import parts place, and they have the silver plugs in stock for $5.50 each. So I will go pick those up and post my impression, later.
                    Thanks

$5.50 per plug is a little ridiculous. If you don't need them right away, shop around a little online. I got my plugs for a dollar and change each from www.aplusparts.com

The bosch silver plugs for my eta are $4.25 each at aplusparts. So if you factor in shipping, and wait time, it's better to just get them local for $5.50 each. It's weird how platnium plugs are found so easily, and are less than half the cost of the oe bosch silver plugs.

Just got the silver plugs, and checked the gaps (already perfect), and installed them.
I haven't noticed any real difference, I drove about 5 miles.

Well, at least all my old platniums looked good, nice consistent tan color, with no oil or crap on them.
Now I know I have the right OEM plugs. I can finally sleep at night,

Sorry folks... I didn't think there could be such a huge difference in spark plug prices between those for "i" engines and those for "e" engines. My bad.
