Early Model (325e), does it need front and rear window guides?

So I just had my 85 325e repainted. It has the original old style regulators. I ordered new one piece rubber inner window guides to replace the cracked, hard old ones.

As I installed the rubber guides, I noticed that there was a lot of extra guide material at both ends that tucked into the door. The windows do not have any kind of channel or guide front or rear, and the rubber guide just kind of hangs down in there.

I checked out realoem to see what their diagram looked like and I found the following pressed steel window guides.

Number 8 on realoem (left side for reference) 51321919647
Number 9 on realoem (left side for reference) 51321945507

These look like they should take up the remaining rubber guide material that is hanging inside the doors, but when I look at my car I don't see any holes in the inner door frame where the brackets on these guides would be bolted to. The mounting brackets are perpendicular to the guide brackets and would mount lower in the front and rear inner frames.

The car definitely did not have these brackets on either side. Are these missing from my car? I can get them from ECS Tuning for about $30 each, but before I shell out $120 I thought I'd post here.

Anyone with experience with this? I searched a bunch but found very little about window guides. If I don't need them then I'll probably just trim the rubber guides down a bit.
