I'm getting a new key tomorrow at the dealer, but that won't fix the situaton soon enough. Starting at 8am tomorrow morning, our cars need to be moved to a different street in order for the street sweeper to come by, otherwise you get a $30 ticket. I'd rather avoid that if I can. Starting the engine without a key is easy enough, I just haven't figured out how to unlock the steering column without busting anything. Shouldn't there be a quick easy way to dissasemble this thing? Everything else in the car comes apart like legos.

floor jack = your friend. i moved my parts e30 without wheels across a parking lot about 8 stalls over, and i used two jacks.
just jack up the front, pull the floor jack over in the right direction...set down and move the car forward/backwrd whatever.
other than that, u could break the lock mech. -
