    question about central lock

My 91 318is has central lock. Sometimes when I go to lock or unlock from the passerger side door, the lock doesn't want to turn. However if I go play with the driver's side and come back to the passenger side it will work with no problems at all. Do anyone else have this similar problem? Does anyone know a fix for this?

I dont know if this is the case, but when I turn the key in the drivers side door to lock it and pull the key out (as in not turning it to the original place I stuck the key in....more clearly...when the lock is in this position (---) not this position ( I ) ) and try to unlock the doors from the passenger side, it will only unlock the passenger side door, not all of them. On the other hand, if the lock looks like this ( I ) then I can unlock both doors from either side (passenger of drivers).

Thats the "double lock" feature, its kinda like a dead bolt for the drivers side door. If you lock the drivers side by turning the key to the (---) position and remove it, that activates the double lock. The only way to unlock the door is to use the key again on the drivers side door and return it to the ( | ) position.

Thanks for the technical term. :D

Rob, before my keyless entry, I also used the trunk due to the doors locks being too stiff.

Right now to lock and unlock my car I have to use my trunk. About a month ago I tried to unlock my car from the driver’s side, and it wouldn't budge. So now I am using the trunk to lock/unlock my car until I figure out what I need to fix or replace.

same boat here, i can lock from the drivers door, but then to open it, ill turn the key and it will make the sound but not unlock any doors. so right now i dont really lock my car, dont keep anything of value in it lol. and to open it if i do lock it, i have to go to the pasenger side where it doesnt really turn only like halfway. i have to turn it as hard as i can and pull the door hard and it will open, its kinda odd. idk

I guess my 318is doesn't have central locking. I'm pretty sure it was an option on the 318is. I have to lock/unlock the doors and trunk individually.
