New hood shock, and the hood still doesn't spring forward?

Not my car, but my buddy's E30. We replaced the hood shock w/ a new OEM one, since the hood latch (when pulled), would not spring the hood forward. The hood releases fine, just doesn't pop it forward....you have to manually move it forward, then up

What gives? The old shock wasn't that old either, but i'm not sure what else would cause it not to spring forward? Does something need to be greased? The cable itself feels nice & tight when you pull the latch, and everything seems to release as it should.

sounds like your latch may be worn or has moved out of place a bit...both will reduce tension on the release mechanism. I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

its not even my car, so i'm def not losing sleep lol

just annoying that what I thought was an easy part fix, wasn't the case.

the hood latch meaning the rollers on either end of the hood?

It's not the shock. The large hinge at the front has two pivot points. The one pivot is what raises the hood vertical; grease that with lithium grease. The second pivot point is just beneath that one; this is what controls the "pop" forward. Make sure to grease that as well. Once everything is greased, move the hood through its full motion a number of times.

As stated above it is not the hood shock, there is a spring in that hinge assembly and it may not be set right
