How I'm supposed to change ignition switch without a key? Car is E30 , year model 89.

How to change ignition switch?

the switch is considered the electrical part which you can change as long as you can get steering wheel and column covers off (two small screws hold it onto back of lock assembly). to replace the lock tumbler the part key goes into you'll need the key to be able to turn to first position and insert pin into hole to release tumbler . if not you can try to drill it out just be careful not to damage the carrier assembly ,if unsucessful you need to find a good carrier used with a key ,or purchase new from BMWAngus

I drilled mine out when a key from the dealer did not match my ignition tumbler. Took about 5-10 minutes
metal shavings will go everywhere, set a towel down to catch them
I used the same size drill bit and lots of cutting oil, you can hear each tumbler individually breaking, all 5 of them. take breaks in between each one to apply more oil.
remember to use even pressure and go slow
