Windows/Heater not working at same time?

Windows are off and on from deciding whether they want to work or not on my 88 325ic. But when they decide they don't want to work, neither does my heater. Then when they decide to work, the heater does too. Any ideas? I'm at a loss of what to do.

only common point to those both not working at the same time is the control to the unloader relays at the starter (heater blower motor is thru K7 and windows thru K5 unloader relays) different fuses and different relays control each so either the ground thru the starter isnt present to control relays or the power feed to the relays is intermittently bad . i would start by checking connection at starter next time problem occurs BLK/GRN wire grounds thru the starter windings when starter isnt engaged ,either wiggle it and see if relays click and things now operate or try removing it and grounding the wire to see if it is a problem internal to starter.
power to both relays is direct from battery #30 circuit so i think many other thing would not be working if that had issues...

K5 and K7 both failed on my car. Easy and cheap to replace. They're both Bosch 0332019456 relays.

Having the exact same problem. My problems started last week after the car experienced a rough start in which it took a while to turn over and then died out immediatly. Before this incident driving to work in the am everything worked fine. After this starting up issue windows and heater did not work, no fan at all. I have checked and replaced fuses, and no luck. I have looked at grounds but as far as I can tell they are good to go. Any ideas why this would have happened. BTW both windows and fan have been out since that day.
