    Electrical woes

    Hey all,
I'm having trouble with a 1987 4 door that I am resurrecting as a winter rally daily, it was a eta car, and now has a 2.5 in it the car runs well but I am having trouble with the Diagnostic indicator (The led indicator above the rearview mirror)/turn signals. When ever I press the brake pedal the check brake light and oil level led come on and then when I let off they go out, also I have no left side turn signals. Has anybody ever encountered this or even know if they are related? I haven't gotten to look at it in depth yet but wanted to see if anybody has seen this before, I have a full binder of Electrical diagrams as well as the BMW ETM and am going to try and sort it out some more tonight.

Oddly enough, I had the same issue with my check panel. Replacing it fixed the problem. Does pressing the CHECK button on the panel do anything?

What does your turn signal do, specifically?

My check button does make all the leds light up and makes the indicator in the instrument panel go out, the left turn signals flash really fast when I turn them on. Kind of like both bulbs are shot

i would be checking your grounds in the Left rear taillamp assembly,
do the left turn signal bulbs flash when on? are they full brightness? what happens when emergency flashers are on?

do any other lights come on at the same time in the rear lamp assembly with left turn switch on? a lot of time with a bad ground in the rear lamp the park or brake lights will flash dimly as well and cause false reading in the check control .

The bulbs do nothing, no flashing, not even a flicker, I feel like the check panel isn't related to the turn signals and may just be bad. Four ways only power the right side but instead of the indicator in the instrument panel flashing really fast they flash at a normal pace, (due to the resistance of the other two bulbs) Unfortunately I have been swamped with work so I haven't had a chance to diagnose it more than a quick visual inspection. will get into more as soon as I can and post results. It may just be two bad bulbs coincidently

Bulb sockets and lamp connectors corrode. I'd go around with some sandpaper and see if that helps at all.

Will keep in mind, on a unrelated topic, have any of you guys ever used a power probe? I bought one to use on this build and it has been the best thing ever. It hooks to your battery and then you can measure power, ground and it has a built in voltmeter. Then to top it off you can GIVE the test lead power or ground. If you guys are looking for Christmas ideas this is a good one
