    SI Board and cluster questions

Ok, I finally got around to taking my cluster out to figure out my si board, I was origonally planning on jumping and bypassing the si board. Once I got it out I realized mine wasnt the type that the DIY showed, here is a pic of it, it is a motometer one with the row of 13 plugs and a row of 5 plugs, like this one

which means I have to replace the batteries right?
However my batts have been glued in as seen here

and it looks like there may have been a bit of acid leaking as seen from the underside of the board here

So basically, what do I need to do to get my cluster back owrking again, with or without the si board. and in the most cost effective way.
    Thanks in advance - Graham

I don't think that's acid - looks more like flux. I had the same looking batteries in my VDO cluster.

The glue isn't what's holding the batteries in - its the solder points. You'll have to remove the solder and the batteries will pop out. In my case - the glue was more silicon like - probably meant to support the batteries.

I wound up removing the batteries entirely and buying 2 AA battery holders from radio shack and 2 ni cads. I wired up each battery holder individually to the board. The negative side is the one with two prongs going to it. I jumpered the two together.

I just used generic AA Ni Cads.

Radio Shack pn 23-191. $9 for two. They are being slowly taken from the system, get them while you can. Go to radio shack and order a couple pairs, they can have them shipped to your local store. Ask me how I know.
