not getting spark i think, need a little help..

alright so i go to start my car this morning before work and it just keeps turning over. at first i thought it was just doing the thing where it sometimes tunrs over for a few seconds then starts like it does every couple of weeks. it sounded like it was about to fire a couple times and just coughed and kept turning over.

so i checked to see if it was getting fuel, which it is. i check for spark by turning it over and seeing if i could get spark from any of my spark plug wires going to the plugs by seeing if it arcs over a little gap to a screwdriver. it doesnt.

so i figure it could be the coil? is there a way to test if a coil is bad?

also when i took the plug off of the coil it had a bunch of corrosion on it, even though i just replaced all the spark plug wires like 2 months ago, how can that be?

before i go and order a new coil i'd like to hear some input and suggestions because i have the work truck all week and dont want to rush and waste chedda.

    thanks

easy just disconnect the lead from your distributor to the secondary of the coil at the distributor end and do the same thing as if your checking your spark plug lead. if theres a spark there then your coil cant be bad but the distributor can. you say that theres corrosion on the lead? is it right where the conductor makes contact? does it look burned at all? if it does maybe the new lead is makin a crappy connection and has been arcing away and making intermittant contact i dunno.
