    restoration build

Alright folks, I finally got myself a '91 318is (red) and everything about it is OG. 318,000 miles and its running well. My Uncle (who's a mechanic) took great car of it since he's owned. Down side about getting help/work done with him is I'm in the Bay and he's down in SoCal.

I'm planing on getting the car restored to a certain point. Probably not a full restoration, but it depends. Basically, I want more power, new paint (i'm digging the red), stance with some stronger brakes, and new rims/tires. No track, or racing. Just a reliable, clean, classic, strong fun car to drive on the weekends.

The interior is cool, but i'll eventually get a new dash (current one is cracked a bunch).

Exterior clear coat is faded, black trimming on the bummers need to be replaced.

This is what I plan on doing (in stages), likely in this order, but let me know what you guys think, suggest, etc.

-new brakes (willwood or similar), rims 16"s / tire, coil overs, maybe a 5 lug, conversion, new rocker arms.

-S42 engine swap, additional mods to boost engine performance (chip, intake, exhaust, etc), transmission (rebuild, upgrade or new).

-New red paint (exterior tear down, not a spray over), replace exterior trimmings.

-redo interior (currently tan), new driver and front pass seats, new dash, cabin lighting and wiring.

Looking into guys at Catuned in Sacramento, CA to do a lot of the work. Any suggestions or experience with this shop?

I know that there's tons of knowledge out there and I appreciate your input on my project. Thanks!

    -Ryan

For some reason this was moved to the spam folder. I moved it back out to the general forum.

Well... You don't have rocker arms, so scratch that off the list. Good luck finding an S42...
These things are going up in value, If you have a stock 318is, you may want to think about keeping it that way. It's extremely difficult to find an unmolested 318is. I would get a more common 325i coupe and do these mod's It seems like you have the money for two cars.
