    Rust at heat shield

I just got my 1990 325i a couple months ago and am now going through it for possible issues.

On a 80k mile otherwise no-rust car I found that all of the 'studs' that hold the passenger-side exhaust heat shield (kinda under passenger foot well) are rusted out and have left holes in the sheet metal they attached to. I don't think this is the floorboard, but I could be wrong.

This is the middle 'stud' (or at least where it was) of three:

Anybody else see this? Particular cause (like, does the A/C drain somehow end up here, keeping it wet)?

The car has been in San Antonio TX for it's life and doesn't appear to have been near the coast for any period of time (judging by the lack of rust elsewhere).

Thanks for the help. I know pictures would help - I'll work on that.

looks like your floors are in deep shit, take your seats and carpet out and check for rust.
