Ahh! I need a new muffler..

I discovered today that I have a pretty massive hole in the muffler of my 84 318i.
What should I get to replace it?

Ansa, Bosal or OEM? I'm hoping to spend just around 150-175 if at all possible.
I've priced stuff at bavauto and FCP so far..
Anybody have any thoughts? Good or bad experiences with certain mufflers?

    TIA

I've heard that ansa sounds about the same as stock. That's about all I know about it though. I'd be up for going for something a little nicer with a good rumble sound to it .. if I had the money. I have been putting all available funds into my other toy. I thought I was finished shoveling money into the 318.. I guess with old cars, you're never finished. <sigh>

WOW! Thanks. Those prices are quite a bit lower than what I had found.

Bosal is an OEM brand, as is Eberspracher. Between the two, I'd get the Eberspracher since it's a little higher quality.

I hadn't even heard of Eberspracher until today. It's a fair bit more expensive than the rest I've been looking at.. but still reasonable.

At this point I'm leaning towards the Sport Ansa muffler for 146 and free shipping from expressautoparts. (Thank you BingM3!)

Where'd you get the muffler? Weld-in?

                        Yeah, it's just a 2"ID in/out muffler. I got it from www.summitracing.com . $43 shipped.

It was $82 for Monro to bend/weld in a new pipe from the cat back.

Oooooh. I wish my lousy internet would let me hear them!!
I hear from reliable sources, that your car sounds awesome though ;-)
I'm going to look into that for sure before I go with Ansa.

                          Thanks

Ansa is garbage. I had an ansa cat-back on my 325 and it rusted out after 3yrs of use, and it doesn't even snow down here. However, it had a better sounding tone than stock but was no louder, also the tips were alot nicer than the stock eta tip.

If I were you, I would try and be cool like Bill and get the dynomax, it sounds purty. ;)
