sunroof operation

On the e30 is the sunroof supposed to 'stop' when closing it, before it 'pops up'?

i.e. if I have my sunroof all the way open and I hold the button to close it, I have to guess when to stop otherwise it keeps going and pops up.

Is this typical or do I have some kind of switch problem? Other 'BMW product' cars I have owned had a 'stop' where the roof stopped at closed and you had to press again to get the roof to 'pop up' - is that a later feature?

the relay is supposed to stop it. Maybe the relay is stuck? I have the wiring diagram for it right in front of me, but I'm having trouble following it. Regardless, all there is is the Fuse, switch, relay, and motor.
