    fuel filter

im doing a minor tune-up (spark plugs, dist. cap & rotor, plug wires) and was thinking about changing the fuel filter also, how often does the fuel filter need replacing?

Dealer says 12 to 15k miles.

12 to 15 is too soon. Back in the 80s when they made that interval gas was really dirty- you'd actually see brown coming out of the filter when you change it.

Now a days they have 100k mile intervals on the new cars because the gas itself is much cleaner. 100k is stretching it a bit though.

I'd say change it once so you know it's been done and by the time it needs another change the car will probably be a cube in the scrap yard already.
