Excessive play in throttle cable after auto to manual swap

Hey guys, I'm almost done swapping my 1987 325is to manual transmission and I'm running into an issue with the accelerator cable, it seems to be too long now. With everything hooked up, there's at least an inch of excess cable before the orange plastic adjuster hits the throttle lever, which gives the gas pedal a ton of free play before it actually engages.

I swapped in a whole new pedal assembly from the manual parts car but the accelerator portion of the pedal seemed to be the same so I'm not sure what I'm missing here.

It's too much play to adjust out with the plastic knob, like I said it's over an inch.

    Any ideas?

I just checked and the part number for the cable is the same, so perhaps the routing of the cable is different, the pedal bushings are worn out, and/or the linkage is somehow different.
