Fuel leak from hose connecting filler to tank

Fixed it today. Totally was that hose that reduces diameter and has a phallic bend.

Check out the cracks:



Lost about a gallon doing the work too.. [emoji850]

But...all sealed up. No more leak.

on my e30, that hose is squishy but there isn't and leaks coming from it. I'm trying to find out why my tank overfills so quickly. when the filler neck is full and I squeeze this hose you can see the fuel left in the mouth bubble. any ideas?

Ah gotchya. I was thinking of something physically smaller since you said nipple.

Was just talking about the nipple off of the tank to the fill hose that's discussed above.

Either way, start with removing the old hose from the tank end first to see what you can see.

Thanks for the heads up. Is that nipple in the same area as the hose I will replace? Perhaps I can check it quickly before working.

Should also point out that it's quite possible for the nipple on the tank to have corroded, but it's more likely that the hose has failed.

For p/n 16121180402 the large end od is approx 1 7/8", id 1 5/8", small end od 1 1/2", id 1 1/4".

It's also roughly the shape of your average banana.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I did notice the step down, but it looks like my car has another hose connecting from that neck down to the tank. (PO replaced fuel tank).

Any idea what that OD is in the stepped down tubing into the tank?

The hose necks down in size and can't really be made of generic hose.

You can find the part number on realoem or bmwfans.

You'll need to drain the tank to below the level of the nipple on the tank to replace the hose in question.

Hello R3v,

I was wondering if anyone can help me find the correct hose I need to fix this leak.

I've discovered a pretty fast leak after filling up my e30 the other day.

It's the hose that connects the filler hose to the tank itself.


It looks like it is leaking either from a corroded hose or at the clamp itself. I couldn't get a good look at it but when squeezing the hose I noticed it didn't really return to the proper shape and the hose felt quite weak.

Regardless the hose and clamp will be replaced but I'm having trouble finding a part number. Is it just a generic hose that I should buy and cut to length? Or can I find a proper part number?
Pelican parts seems to only sell at longer lengths.

What's the proper thickness and spec hose I should buy?

My second concern is: will I need to drain my tank before replacing the hose?

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.
