AC compressor doesn't kick on anymore

So.... i installed a headunit the other day... and just recently i noticed that my AC doesn't get cold anymore...

at first i figured i needed a recharge because it used to take like 10 minutes before it would stop blowing HOT air...

then i realized that my compressor wasn't kicking on.

I pulled teh headunit back out to see if there was anything unplugged.... but everything looked alright.

can someone tell me where/which is the fuse for the AC and which plug back there connects to the AC compressor? I want to make sure i didn't blow a fuse or disconnect something with the headunit.

Unless my compressor coincidentally went out at the same time i did the headunit

Sounds like you need a recharge. You'll probably want to do it anyway if it takes 10 minutes to get cool. btw, my compressor wouldnt come on when there was no refrigerant in the system.

Yea what he said. It won't kick the clutch out if there's not enough pressure in the system. If you want to check to see if it's the clutch or compressor, just pull the plug, and run a jumper back to the hot junction point where the battery would be if it were up front. If it clicks your clutch is fine and it's another problem, like no refrigerant, or bad switches etc.......

        Same problem

I have the same problem with mine with the exception that right before mine stopped working I had smoke coming out of the dash. At first I thought that the switch had burned itself up so I obtained another one and it doesn't work either. I have verified that the switch is getting power so I don't think that is the problem. Since it could be low on R12, I happened to find an old can of it lying around this weekend while cleaning out my garage. I do remember that it wasn't working that well when it went kaput. So my question is, do I fill the R12 near the front strut on that fitting or do I fill it near the site glass towards the passenger side behind the headlights? I will let you know what I find but it seems to me that if it was smoking there is a good chance that I have a fuze blown somewhere.

You need to fill on the low pressure side. I have acouple of fittings on each side of mine, but I don't think it matters which fitting you use as long as it is low pressure. Otherwise it could cause nastiness.

            Which one???

But which one is the low pressure side? Is it the one near the wheel strut or is it the other one near the site glass? Thanks in advance for your help.

Right here. Mine has been converted, but the fitting is in the same place.

Yea, that picture is correct. Low side is the larger tube.

There is a large round plug behind the right head light. It runs down to the compressor. Run a jumper from that to the battery cable junction on the firewall. You'll see it as it has a big red +. If your clutch kicks it's ok.

broke ass m20s, m42s have sight glasses that allow you to see the level of refrigerant.

This one. Use the male connector. It's on the compressor side and has a single wire leading out of it.
