    Tough Gas Pedal

My gas pedal is really hard to push down, and the other e30s ive driven they are really smooth. I've checked my cables, and no snags, is there somethin up behind the pedal that can cause it to stick?

Does anybody else have this problem?

Check the linkage between the pedal and the throttle cable, oil as needed.

Check the spring tention on the throttle body.

      go with that.....
a little off topic but, on chevys 3.1, 2.8 engines the same thign happens and normally its the throttle retrun spring gets streched making it stiffer so we have to rplace those offen. never sen that happen on a bmw though.
go with what jordan said, stiffness could be cured easily by some lube.

My 87's gas pedal is as hard as a rock. My 88's is as light as the pedal in our other BMW's.

Throttle body spring resistance feels the same to me. I think it has somehtin to do with the cord.

Maybe it has to do with the pre 88's then?

Sorry man. Don't mean to "brag". For the reason of the post, I included it. What I was getting at was it may have had something to do with the eta engine, possibly. But, I pointed out even though it was an 88, it was still an eta.

                Sorry. :x

Go to a store and buy a cable luber. Usually they're a small metal clamp-looking device with a rubber insert that has a hole for the tube you usually find taped to the side of a WD40 can. Take some silicone lube and lube the cable thoroughly. My 325 did this and that cleared up the problem.

I just bought a new one. Got it for about $15 and the pedal feels like new.
Took half an hour to replace in the middle of the night.
Now I need to replace the auto transmission accelerator cable to get all the cables new.

                            Bought a new what?

By the way, the pedal in my '87 eta is stiff as well. Whenever I drive my sisters 5-speed accord I am so excessive witht he gas pedal. Damnit!
