Pressure washed engine bay, now m20 won't run

My engine bay was disgusting so I threw some degreaser on there and pressure washed it. I was as conscious as I could have been about not hitting the cap and rotor/spark plugs but I think I wasn't careful enough.

The car was NOT on, but it was hot from running.

The car made about a 30 minute drive home right after the wash (halfway home it started missing badly)

This morning after having the spark plug wires out overnight to hopefully dry, I started it up, drove it a mile and it all of a sudden was missing so badly it died out of no where.

It will start up, but it wont idle without missing a lot and die.

Someone said I might have caused the timing belt to skip a tooth because of the pressure?? I very much doubt it but figured I would take all this to the forum before paying for a new cap and rotor.

I could hear what sounded like grinding from the cap and rotor area when I started it up, Im assuming that something is wrong with it. I currently have the cap and rotor out and drying against an AC unit and I'm going to try to put it back in before I buy a new one. There are no visible cracks or wear on the cap or rotor which makes me nervous.

But just in case, anyone have any other thoughts?

(PS. I wont ever pressure wash an engine bay again)

Did the same thing with my brother's 325e.
Started missing, but it ran. Let it sit/dry over night and the problem never surfaced.

Could be some water got into the C191 plug.

I dried the cap and rotor for a couple hours again and it worked, but not without a terrible grinding sound, which is the sound it made right before it crapped out last time. So I went ahead and bought a new cap and rotor. Live and learn I guess :/
